A New Era for Caribbean Examinations
For more than fifty years, the Caribbean Examinations Council has played a central role in certifying learners across the region. As education continues to evolve, CXC is preparing for a major transformation. Over the next three to five years, all examinations are expected to move to a fully digital format. This transition is already underway, with thousands of students sitting January 2026 examinations using digital and hybrid assessment methods.
Expanding Digital Access and Readiness
Registration: an unexpected queue of 11 would-be participants hoping to join the workshop at the last minute, creating a dilemma for the local organisers: admit them and risk offending institutions that have already been turned away because demand outstripped the 60 places available, or reject them and risk offending people who have just driven or flown hundreds of miles across the country in the hope of joining in? Solution: admit them, but delay their participation to make sure that word gets round about the need to register in advance next time!
Building Resilience Through Preparedness
Alongside digital transformation, CXC has strengthened its commitment to resilience and continuity. Recognizing the increasing impact of hurricanes and climate related disruptions, the council has formally approved a regional disaster and business recovery protocol. This framework ensures that examinations can continue even when participating territories are affected by natural disasters. Recent activation of this protocol has allowed affected students to receive flexible assessment options without compromising fairness or standards.
Disaster resilience and inclusive education are at the core of our strategy.
